1. General Description of BusinessSearchNZ
BusinessSearchNZ is the new 2007 Directory of Member for the Auckland Chamber of Commerce – making it faster and easier for companies to do business with Chamber members.

It offers a new approach for maximising the exposure of members – taking the platform online and offering a host of new features for member businesses to raise their profile and build a network of members with whom they associate and exchange information.

Each member provides information about their business.  This can include a description of their business, contact details, a description of their products and services available, promotional information, pictures and animations and much, much more.  Members are provided with a userid and password so that they can login to the site to maintain this information thereby ensuring that it is correct and up-to-date.

Members can subscribe to BusinessSearchNZ at one of seven different levels b1 to b7, the higher levels giving more exposure to their business.  All members of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce receive a free listing at the b1 level but if they wish they can pay an annual subscription to move to the higher levels.  This enables them to add more information about their business, advertise promotions, have banner adverts (small ads that appear to the side of every page) and increase their search ranking so that their business appears closer to the top of search results.

2. General Description of the information areas
In the first phase of the BusinessSearchNZ launch members are asked to check and expand their business information. Business information can be specified in five main areas:

2.1 Business Profile - the business profile contains the core information about a business – all members should complete a Business Profile. The following information can be included:

  • Core Business Information - name of the business, physical and postal address, contact phone & fax, link to the business’s website, business logo (only for b2 or higher) etc.
  • Description of the business – a general description of what the business does should also be included.
  • Trade Categories – the important trade categories and subcategories in which the business operates.
  • Products and services – a list with a brief description of the products and services the business is able to provide.
  • Locations where you do business – the cities and suburbs at which the services are available.
  • Opening Hours
  • Honours and Awards – any special recognition the business has received.
  • An image library – an assortment of images that add a visual context for the business information.

2.2 Business Search Listing – the business directory can be searched using the "find a member business" search on the left of the screen. A number of search fields are possible including keyword, company name, business location or trade category. If a member record is returned by a search it is the information specified in the business search listing that is displayed. The entry can be clicked to display the full profile of a business described above. All members have a business search listing.

2.3 Business Savings/Chamber Card Promotions - members can advertise special business savings or Chamber Card Promotions available to other members. These are searched using the "find a business saving" panel on the right of the screen. If a member record is returned by a search it is the information specified in the Business Saving that is displayed. The entry can be clicked to display the full profile of a business. Advertising Business Savings are only available to b2 subscribers or higher.

2.4 Banner Adverts - when pages from the directory are displayed banner ads appear on the left and right of the screen. On the left are Featured Business Banner ads and on the right are Featured Business Savings Banner ads. Banner ads are only available to b5 subscribers or higher and can only contain an image at b6 or b7.

2.5 Administration Information – members can manage the personal information about themselves such as their name, email address, photograph, password etc. In addition administrators can create user accounts for other people in their business so that they too will be able to login and maintain their business information.

3. Summary of information in each area
Business information is maintained using the following areas:

Area Description
Business Account & Settings Contains information about the business such as the name, phone numbers and physical and postal address. Members can also upload their business logo this will be automatically scaled to size.
Business Profile on Profile Page This is a detailed description of your business and is shown in the centre of your profile.

A number of main categories and sub categories can be included e.g. automotive: sales; automotive: repairs; automotive: accessories. Image library They say "a picture is worth a thousand words" therefore a business profile can contain a number of thumbnail images which when clicked bring up a larger picture and description. This picture gallery enables viewers to visualise the business: their staff, premises and products or services.
Business Search Listing: category & location The ability for members to find your business hinges on a successful search. The business directory can be searched using the "find a member business" search on the left of the screen. A number of search fields are possible including keyword, company name, business location or trade category. If a member record is returned by a search it is the information specified in this area that is displayed.
Search Keywords The business directory can be searched by the keywords created in this area. Suitable keywords describe your business, products or services e.g. courier, restaurant, builder etc.
Chamber Card Promotion on profile page A business profile may also contain descriptions of promotions available. This information is displayed below the description of the business in their profile. It is important that this information is kept current.
Chamber Card Promotion Categories Chamber members can advertise special business savings or Chamber Card promotions to other members. The categories specified in this area are similar to the trade categories above but only list the trade areas targeted by promotions. They are searched using the "find a business saving" panel on the right of the screen.
Business Saving Search Listing Business savings can either be searched by trade categories or location. It is the information specified in this entry that will be displayed by the search.
The entry comprises a trade category, location, image and description. Select a trade area that best represents the business area of your promotion. Obviously the location is one in which you do business and it's a good policy to keep this general.

It is the banner created in this section that will be displayed. The algorithm used to select which business banners to display uses information about the subscription level as well as random selection.

It is the banner created in this section that will be displayed. The algorithm used to select which business banners to display uses information about the subscription level as well as random selection.
The entry comprises a trade category, an image and a textual description of the promotions.
Personal Account & Settings This area contains details about the logged in user such as their name, email address and password.  Each user can also upload an image that will be scaled to fit their profile entry.
